Joan M. King, PhD, has been involved with COIA for the past two years. She is the LSU Faculty Senate’s elected COIA representative and chairs a local faculty senate committee for COIA/FAR interactions and gaining information about the practices of the athletic department.  Joan has served on the LSU Athletic Council from 2011 to present. She served on the LSU NCAA Recertification Steering Committee and chaired a subcommittee on Gender, Diversity, and Student Well-Being for the internal review of the LSU Athletic Department in 2012.

At LSU, Joan has been at LSU and the LSU AgCenter for 20 years and is a Professor in the School of Nutrition and Food Sciences. She has been the secretary for the LSU Faculty Senate since 2013, has been an executive committee member since 2011, and was a faculty senator for two incongruent terms. She also served as Past Chair, Chair, Secretary and Executive Committee member of the LSU AgCenter Faculty Council, 2005 to 2016. She served as Curriculum Coordinator for the food science area from 2009 to 2017 and since 2009 serves as advisor to all food science students. She has served on numerous other committees at various levels in the university and LSU AgCenter for areas such as internal and external departmental reviews, budget and planning, promotion and tenure, awards, policy, courses and curricula, appeals, scholarships, program assessment, ombudsperson search committee, and the LSU Internship Counsel.
