Kelley Withy, MD, PhD, is Professor of Family Medicine and Community Health at University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine and the Director of the Hawaii/Pacific Basin Area Health Education Center (AHEC). She graduated from Harvard University as an undergraduate where she played varsity water polo, helping to bring the team from club to team status and host nationals, then University of California San Diego for her medical degree, performed her residency at Long Beach Memorial Family Medicine Residency Program and received her PhD in Biomedical Sciences in Clinical Research at University of Hawaii at Manoa. Her research focuses on health disparities, health workforce assessment and health careers development.

Dr. Withy has over 50 presentations, 30 publications and 20 funded grants for projects on predoctoral training, rural health disparities, health careers recruitment, provider retention, cultural factors in medicine, distance learning methods and community health education. She has been a consultant or subcontractor as an evaluator on numerous grants and contracts, both HRSA and state funded health and prevention programs. Dr. Withy is the primary physician workforce researcher in Hawaii and has developed the only statewide database of supply and demand for physician services. She has designed programs for all years of schooling that are being employed with more than 4,000 students a year.

Dr. Withy has served on faculty senates at both her school level and the college level for the last 16 years, serving as Chair of the medical school faculty senate twice and on the Senate Executive Committee for the University of Hawaii at Manoa. She has been on or chair of the Committee on Athletics for a total of 10 years and elected the COIA representative in 2017. She has been on search committees for important administrative positions including athletic director, on the Athletic Advisory Board and is helping to institute a faculty athletic mentoring program.
